The letters serve as a revelation of a delightful, shared sense of humor and comforting talk of home, and Rawlings’ insecurities about her writing and challenges she faced in her career. Confronted by a $100,000 ‘Invasion of Privacy’ lawsuit brought against her by her neighbor, Zelma Cason, for Rawlings’ depiction of Zelma in her book Cross Creek, Baskin was there to support her through an ordeal that would greatly impact the rest of her life and career.
